I recently became the owner of a 2nd Amaran 200x by Aputure. Having never bought a proper case for the first one, I decided it was time to kit it up. Ahhh case shopping. Hurts so good. I began my search for the best case for Aputure Amaran lights. I knew that I wanted something big enough for the 2 lamps, some accessories/lighting modifiers and enough room for a future addition or 2. It was honestly pure coincidence that I came across a great deal on the Pelican 1615 TRVL Air; It checked all the boxes in a lightweight form factor.
My goal was to use the custom fitted foam that came with the lamps, as it fit so well. The first 200x is about 2 years old and came in packaging with a longer form factor compared to the newest one. By laying them out beside the Pelican 1615 case, I saw that it would be possible to use the included foam packaging inserts with a slight modification.
By cutting the shorter foam insert 4 1/8” from the right (using an electric knife), I was able to squeeze both 200x’s with their foam inserts into the Pelican 1615 side by side.
I used some additional foam I had laying around beneath the 2 inserts to get them up to the same height.
This gave me more than enough room to fit the case's current contents, which are:
2 x Amaran 200x’s
2 x power adapters
2 x power cables
2 x reflectors
1 x NiceFoto Fresnel lens with barn doors and honeycomb modifier
1 x barn doors with set of colored gels
This leaves me room for a possible 3rd 200x,
2 Aputure Amaran 60x’s if I want the kit to veer small
or a 300d/600d will alternatively fit if I want to go bigger.
If you’re looking to collapse several lights and accessories into 1 case, the Pelican 1615 Air could be the best case for your Aputure Amaran lights!
